Living in and around Atlanta, the age-old question is always: Are you originally from Atlanta? I guess that’s a result of our community and the vast number of people who have relocated to the city nicknamed HOTlanta — making us the 9th largest metro area in the country.
As for me, I say I’m from Atlanta, but I wasn’t born here. I was born in the chill of the North, specifically Middletown, NY, and moved here kicking and screaming a month before my 9th birthday. Let’s just say that change is not my favorite thing in the world. But since then, I haven’t left! I guess the Heart of the South grew on me!
I currently live just outside Atlanta, in the town I grew up in — Lilburn. For several years I lived just a mile from my parents in a little yellow cottage with my menagerie of pets — 3 dogs and 2 cats. In November 2011, my life changed dramatically when my father died. I readily admit that I have always been the definition of “Daddy’s Girl.” His death has been a tremendous blow to my life as I have known it. I deal with it each day in the only way I know how — placing my sadness, fears, anger, and grief in the hands of God.
In January 2012, I made the decision to move back to my childhood home to help my mom with the house. Moving is always a hard adjustment, but as a 30-something single woman, it’s a little more complicated to move back in with my parent. Overall, though, I’m thankful I was in a situation that made this move possible.
My life passions are for helping people and helping animals. Thus leading to my day job as a career specialist for adults with disabilities; and to my “hobby” as a volunteer with Atlanta Beagle Rescue.
I have a master’s degree in Counseling from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of West Georgia. When I’m not hanging with the animals or working with my clients, you will probably find me with my camera or a paint brush. I love arts and crafts. I also love reading, writing, NASCAR, blue jeans, flea markets, lazy Sunday afternoons, TV re-runs, coffee, nature walks, and bookstores. I hope you enjoy GraceFilled and come back often! Thanks, Y’all!
